CURRENT ISSUES AND FAQS

Is the Caucus representative of the Village?

The Caucus is representative because its members are directly elected by the voters in each precinct. Each precinct elects three members to the Village Nominating Committee and two members to the School Board Nominating Committee.

Is the Caucus undemocratic?

The Caucus is neither democratic nor undemocratic. Its members are elected democratically and charged with the important task of choosing individuals to fill vital community service positions in our Village. The nature of the Caucus process, with its goal of avoiding rancorous contested elections pitting neighbors against each other, has attracted capable and committed people to the service of our Village. The Caucus Plan has served Glencoe for 69 years, and played a significant role in making Glencoe the community it is and the one in which we have chosen to live.
